BELLBROOK, Ohio (WDTN) – Old Whiskers is a Greene County legend. Before reading on, start playing the Jaws theme in your head.

The 24 pound, 37 inch catfish is 8-years-old and happily swims around Spring Lakes in Bellbrook.

That is where angler Ray Hale comes to fish. He fishes there a lot, so Old Whiskers is probably often on his mind.

He finally snagged Old Whiskers during a 30 minute contest. Fellow fisherman had to help bring the ‘monster’ fish to shore.

Hale proudly displayed his catch, but no worries. He released Old Whiskers back into the lake to keep his legend alive.

Spring Lakes Park is located on Ferry Road just outside of Bellbrook. Greene County Parks and Trails routinely stocks the lake with catfish and trout depending on the season.

Okay, you can stop the Jaws theme in your head now.
