DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A self-proclaimed mouthwash addict was booked into jail after police said he was asking for money near an accident scene.
Edward Jordan III was arrested on charges of panhandling.
Officers were assisting with an accident at the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Wyoming Street around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when they said they were approached by Jordan.
Police said Jordan asked them for twenty cents. Officers warned Jordan that he could be arrested for panhandling.
Jordan said he understood and walked away towards the Dollar General. Police observed him walk into the store and ask a woman for money. The woman gave him some change. Jordan bought a bottle of mouthwash and walked out of the store.
Officers approached Jordan and placed him in handcuffs.
According to the police report, Jordan stated, “I’m not out here robbing anyone putting tools in their face! I’m just an addict. Not a heroin addict; I just drink mouthwash!”
Because Jordan had been warned by police several times, he was booked into jail for panhandling.
