DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – You pick it up like you would a normal gas pump, but that’s where the similarities end.
Dayton now has two electric vehicle charging stations in its parking garage.
They’re designed for people with electric cars who need a place to charge them.
“After years of austerity, it’s nice to do something that plans for the future and maybe assists in pushing that future a little bit,” says Dayton City Commissioner Matt Joseph.
Right now, the charging is free although you still have to pay a fee to park in the garage.
We’re told the price tag for the stations was just under $10,000. The money came from a pair of grants to be used for cleaner energy.
There are now 105 stations statewide.
Joseph feels they’re a worthwhile investment.
“It’s one of the many steps that has to happen down the road to reduce carbon,” Joseph says.
