Air Force Lt. Col. promoted after cleared of alleged sex crimes

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (WDTN) – Lieutenant Colonel Val Finnell, once accused of sexually abusing is own daughter, is now a colonel.  His promotion had been delayed because the Dayton Police Department, Montgomery County Children Services, and his employer, the United States Air Force, were investigating serious allegations against him.

Finnell works at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.  In August, Dayton police officers seized computers and other electronics from the Finnells’ home, and according to the family, they have yet to get their property back.  That matter is now in Dayton Municipal Court.

Finnell received a special order of the Secretary of Air Force indicating the delay is over and his promotion to colonel is effective June 2, 2013.  Finnell told 2 NEWS Investigates he is now wearing the rank of colonel and action has started for him to get his back pay. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
