Runners lace up shoes to fight hunger

CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — People laced up their shoes Sunday morning in an effort to fight hunger.

Panera Bread hosted the 7th Annual Dayton Panerathon 5K and 10K at Centerville High School to raise money for the Children’s Hunger Alliance.

The run will always hold special meaning for one local couple. At the finish line, Matt McDaniel was waiting with four people, each wearing a shirt with the words “Will You Marry Me?”

Amanda Mapes told 2 NEWS what was going through he mind when she realized what was happening.

“I’m shocked, excited, kind of caught of guard,” beamed Mapes.

Sunday’s Panerathon raised about $14,000 for Children’s Hunger Alliance.
