DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — University of Dayton students took part in a prayerful sendoff Sunday, saying their farewells to the school’s iconic Immaculate Conception Chapel a week before graduation.
The chapel will close this summer for a 14-month renovation project.
Masses were held Sunday to pray for the renovation process.
“Many of our students have great feelings about the chapel. This is about honoring our students and providing them an opportunity to have a final moment in the chapel before they leave and the renovation begins,” said Crystal Sullivan, University of Dayton Director of Campus Ministry.
The chapel will close its doors July 20. During the renovation process, masses will be held in a temporary worship space on campus and at Holy Angels Parish. The chapel is scheduled to reopen in late summer 2015.
Construction preparations begin May 5 following graduation weekend.
