Community organizes search for missing Zaden

DAYTON (WDTN) – Community members have organized search efforts for 4-year-old Zaden McKnight.

The young boy and his mother, Nichelle, were reported missing last month.  Nichelle’s body was later found on the banks of the Stillwater River.

West Carrollton resident, Victoria Moore, heard about Zaden on the news and said she knew she had to do something.

Moore has organized a group of volunteers to go Wednesday afternoon and search the area around the Stillwater Trail and Great Miami Recreational Trail. Two areas police have also recently searched.

Moore said volunteers be looking for any clues or evidence that they can turn over to officers.

“The mood is very somber, but the mindset is we will do anything to bring this family closure,” said Moore.  “It was such an unspeakable crime that happened and we feel like as a community we need to stand up and help the victims of these crimes and make sure they are brought to their final resting place.”

Moore said they do not want to interfere with the police investigation, but will help however they can.

The search will take place Wednesday at 3:30 at Boonshoft Museum. Due of the nature of the search and rough terrain, organizers are asking for only adults to attend. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
