DAYTON (WDTN) – Dayton Police and Montgomery County Children’s Services are investigating after a toddler was found walking alone near a busy street.

Investigators were called to the 1600 block of Fauver Avenue in Dayton on Tuesday morning after a neighbor reported seeing the child alone on the sidewalk. She said the only thing he had on was a dirty diaper.

“It’s just so sad and he was scared to death,” said Diana Saylor, the neighbor who found the boy. “I can’t imagine what was going through his mind. I don’t know what was going through his mind. For him to come to me and I don’t even know the child, I could just tell he was petrified. He was holding onto me for all he was worth.”

Officers said the boy escaped from a nearby home, after his caregiver fell asleep.

Investigators said Children’s Services is now working with the family to make sure he is kept safe in the future. He is now staying with grandparents.
