Preble County lawyer faces criminal charges

EATON, Ohio (WDTN) – 2 NEWS has learned that a Preble County lawyer, James Thomas Jr. of the Thomas Law Firm, is facing criminal charges.

The junior partner with the Eaton family firm is being charged with 3rd degree and 4th degree felonies for theft and 1st degree misdemeanors for falsification from 2007 to 2013, during which time he was appointed executor for several elderly clients and committed the alleged crimes.

Thomas has practiced law in Ohio since 2001 and specializes in criminal defense, domestic relations, probate and civil practice.

The case has since been transferred from the Preble County Prosecutor Martin Votel and the Sheriff’s Office to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the state attorney generals office.

Votel declined to comment on the case at this time.

Thomas Jr. also declined to comment and his attorney, Paris Ellis was unavailable.
