DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton VA Medical Center is now a national historic landmark.
A plaque in honor of the special designation was unveiled Thursday afternoon.
Officials there say the Dayton VA has a rich history that dates back to the Civil War.
“Right at the end of the Civil War, President Lincoln signed an act creating these soldiers homes and this was one of the three established immediately after the Civil War,” said Dean Alexander, Superintendent of Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historic Park.
The new designation as a historic landmark will give the VA access to additional research and funding as they work to restore the campus. That extra help will come from the Department of Interior.
