2 arrested for shots fired near Club Vex

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Two people are behind bars are gunfire erupts near a Dayton nightclub.

Dontai Goddard, 32, and Gregory Thornton, 27 were arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Officers were patrolling Fifth Street around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when they heard about four to five gunshots coming from the area of the Vex Nightclub.

When officers responded, witnesses reported the shooters were driving away in a black SUV.

According to a security officer at the parking garage next to Vex Nightclub, he heard an altercation, saw a white car pull out of the Vex parking lot and a black SUV fire several shots at the vehicle.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and found two guns in the car. Goddard and Thornton were inside the vehicle along with two other people.

Officers found shell casings in the parking lot where the shots were fired.

Police also arrested the driver of the SUV for obstructing official business.
