3 charged in Friday morning’s Verizon break-ins

SPINGBORO, Ohio (WDTN)- 2 NEWS is following up on Friday morning’s break-ins at two separate Verizon stores in Middletown and Springboro.

20-year-old Glenn Evanger Phillps Jr., 18-year-old Darren Boykin, and 16-year-old Laron Lee Gillis have each been charged for their part in the attempted break-in at 758 Gardner Road.

Phillips Jr. was driving the silver Chevrolet Malibu and tried to make a getaway, going as fast as 100 miles per hour before officers caught him.

Springboro Police made the arrests shortly after Middletown Police were dispatched to another Verizon store for a break-in.

Gills, a minor, was taken to JDC and faces charges of vandalism, breaking and entering with the purpose of committing a theft and theft.

Boykin is charged with vandalism, breaking and entering with the purpose of committing a theft, theft, and contributing to the unruliness/delinquency of a child.

Phillips Jr. is charged with contributing to the unruliness/delinquency of a child, failure to comply with order or signal of police officer, complicity/abetting another, driving under financial responsibility law suspension or cancellation and willful or wanton disregard of safety on highways.

At least 8 phones were found in the vehicle.
