DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police have identified the shooter in the VA Medical Center lock down as a man from Trotwood.

We’ve been digging deeper to find out everything we can about him.

Police have 59-year-old Neil Moore in custody.

He was arrested Monday afternoon outside of Good Samaritan Hospital.

We know Moore was a former Dayton VA Medical Center Employee.

The CEO there confirmed he retired from the housekeeping department after many years of service.

Chief Richard Biehl said Moore was found outside of Good Samaritan 30 minutes after the shooting occurred.

He said Moore was seeking psychiatric services.

Police do believe Moore knew the man they say he shot.

“As far as I know, the victim was only shot one time in resisting. I believe the gun was found inside the suspect’s vehicle. That vehicle is being confiscated at this time and will be processed by our evidence response team,” said Tim Ferguson, FBI Dayton Office.

Chief Biehl says they’re working with the FBI who are conducting an investigation into this shooting.
