XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – A Xenia boy’s unusual idea ended up saving a person’s life.

Tully Wassom, 6, was honored Wednesday for his role in a rescue on Florida Drive in Xenia in April.

Medic crews responded to the home to treat a person who fell. Medics arrived to find the doors locked and they couldn’t get inside.

While they waited for someone to arrive with a key, Tully volunteered to climb through the pet door and unlock the house for medics.

Tully is the grandson of a neighbor.

The medics were able to get the victim safely to the hospital.

Tully was honored with an official proclamation from the City of Xenia for his efforts. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
