DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The victim in the VA Medical Center shooting was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Paul Burnside, 61, was being treated at Miami Valley Hospital for a gunshot wound to his ankle.
Police said he was shot when Neil Moore, 59, came with a gun to a basement break room at the VA Center Monday.
According to court records, Moore, a former VA Center employee, confronted a man he believed was was engaging in an inappropriate relationship with his wife and daughter. Moore’s wife and daughter are both employed at the VA Center.
Moore pointed a .38 caliber revolver and said “don’t mess with my family.”
Someone lunged at Moore in an effort to disarm him and that is when three shots were fired, one striking Burnside. No one else was injured.
Moore is facing one count of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of use of a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime of violence. Both carry a 10 year sentence.
