SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – The teenager wanted in connection to the deadly shooting of a Springfield high school student has been taken into custody.
Tyrin Hawkins, 17, was arrested this morning in Dayton by the U. S. Marshals SOFAST Task Force on a warrant issued by Juvenile Court in Clark County for one count of murder. Deputy Marshal Jeremy Rose told 2 NEWS they found Hawkins asleep inside an apartment at Kings Court Apartments in Dayton. They said he was asleep and did not put up a fight.
Hawkins is accused of killing 17-year-old Jeffrey Wellington outside apartments in the 2300 block of North Limestone Street in Springfield early Easter morning.
Wellington’s mother, Lakisha Cole, said she has been anxiously waiting for the teen to be captured. “This will allow me to grieve, it will allow me to try to move forward,” she said. “This is the first big step I’ve taken since Easter, so God is good.”
