Prosecutors want teen tried as adult in Wellington murder

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Clark County prosecutors want to try the teenager accused of shooting a football star as an adult.

The 17-year-old was in juvenile court Friday where prosecutors filed the necessary paperwork to try him as an adult for the murder of Jeffrey Wellington.

Wellington ewas shot and killed while trying to break up an argument at party early Easter morning.

He faces a delinquency by murder charge right now in juvenile court.

The next hearing to determine whether he’ll be prosecuted in adult court is May 14.

The teen is currently being held in juvenile detention.
