Officers spot stolen copper in car trunk

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Dayton man was booked into jail after police spot stolen copper in the trunk of his car.

Christopher Hagerty, 29, was arrested on charges of falsification, failure to disclose, obstruction of official business, and several other warrants.

According to police, they spotted Hagerty and another man putting copper wiring into the trunk of a car parked on South Wilkinson Street around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police believe the copper was stolen from downtown buildings.

Officers recovered approximately 200 pounds of braided copper cable from the car.

Hagerty was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
