KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – A Xenia man is celebrating his total transformation and he shared his story only with 2 NEWS.
Matt Manning wanted to make a change and entered a competition at bodybuilding.com, a popular website for weight lifting and weight loss.
He won the contest, after losing 40 pounds in just four months.
Manning told 2 NEWS that he found his motivation to enter and win the competition when he stopped being active with his kids and family.
Once he realized the effect it had on them, he knew it was time for a weight loss.
“There were two main things one was my health. I had had a few health scares, where I passed out, had to go to the ER by ambulance. Also had some chest pains six months later and then my dad had to have a heart valve transplant. So that really woke me up,” said the 2014 challenge winner.
What the long-time body builder didn’t know was that his transformation would land him $50,000, the grand prize for the each of the two winners: one male and female.
Every week, the engineer can be found at the Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center.
Since January, he’s slowly gained muscle and toned his body, which ultimately helped him secure the annual competition’s prize.
The 45-year-old said the decision to get healthier has affected every aspect of his life.
He’s now happier and more active with his kids.
“They said I look like a superhero now (laughs) which is– when they saw the after pictures. My daughter saw the after pictures she’s like ‘Man you look miserable, I’d be miserable too if I looked like that,” said the proud dad.
The 2014 winner said it wasn’t easy to shed the pounds.
He had to portion his meals, eat healthier foods and add exercise to his daily routine, but despite the difficulty he’s encouraging others to take the challenge.
“It has to come from within. You have to have that want to. It has to be internally driven. But then you can have to do things to build support around you,” he said.
Matt credits his wife for keeping him on target.
He plans to use that $50,000 prize towards treating her for supporting him.
Manning is one of two winners for the $100,000 Transformation challenge.
He is the male winner and Robyn Koolen is the female winner from Alberta, Canada.
