Celebrity help for mental illness and addiction

DAYTON, Ohio  (WDTN) – Adore everything is one of the messages from actor and activist Jeffrey Tambor.

With a mix of comedy and in your face reality check, Tambor delivered the keynote speech to an audience at Sinclair Community College Wednesday. Tambor’s heartfelt presentation was on target for the morning symposium’s theme, “Respect, Recovery and Resilience”.

The interactive, engaging delivery was an awakening for much of the audience, guests of the Greater Dayton Mental Health Foundation. Tambor  talked about the emotionally crippling stigmas of fear and worry as well as mental health issues and addictions in his own family.

“When you lose belief in yourself, that’s when the pharmaceutical booze happens, that’s when the suicide prevention team comes in,” said Tambor, a native of San Francisco, California.

Tambor has appeared on the TV series, “Arrested Development” and “The Larry Sanders Show”, several movies and on Broadway.
