MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) – Middletown police dropped aggravated arson charges against a man wrongly connected to the case.

Two people were originally charged.  Police now say Thaddeus Shields, 18, was not there when the fire started at 2001 Roosevelt Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Investigators say a 16-year-old girl claimed he was there, but the police now believe otherwise.

The girl is now charged with obstructing the investigation.  A 17-year old boy also remains charged.

The fire heavily damaged the home. Investigators say there was a disturbance at the house a few hours before the fire started.

A firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

Police say more charges could come pending further investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
