MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) – Miamisburg Police have determined that the bomb scare was a hoax.

As they search for the person responsible, parents are raising concerns about their children’s safety during the investigation.

Mike Rosenbaum told us he feared for his daughter’s life as he anxiously waited for her outside Miamisburg High School Friday.

“I wanted to go inside and find my child and get her out of the school,” says Rosenbaum.

Police say a student found a bomb threat written on the wall of a girls’ bathroom upstairs.

The district tells us the school was immediately placed on lockdown.

A “One Call” was made to parents, notifying them of the situation and that students would be dismissed early, around 11:30 A.M.

Julie Newton rushed to the school to pick up her daughter.

“I’m just really upset they didn’t get the kids out.  If it’s a bomb threat, get them out, onto the street, instead of holding them in there,” comments Newton.

More than an hour after the lockdown began, students were evacuated around 11:30 A.M.

“It’s pretty scary. We’re just glad.  We’re going to head home,” explains Newton.

Superintendent Dr. David Vail says once police arrived, they were in charge of the situation.

“That would be the local authorities and also the bomb squad, telling us, we don’t want to have kids going by the place that there might have been a bomb.  So, them being in the classroom, where there was no lockers, since we knew it was a locker, we wanted to keep them away from lockers as best we could,” explains Dr. Vail.

We asked police why it took more than an hour to evacuate students.

“We got everyone out.  We had to obviously get the buses back up here to get transportation.  I don’t exactly what time it was when we actually made that happen. We had to wait on some additional resources because of what the message was, we had to guard all the lockers to make sure that no one accessed any of the lockers on the way out,” says Miamisburg Police Sgt. Jon Thompson

Those responsible for the bomb scare could face felony charges as well as expulsion from school. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
