Cops investigate 37 car break-ins in two weeks

DAYTON (WDTN) – Dayton Police are on the lookout for a thief who they said is breaking into cars and stealing loose change.

In just the last two weeks, 37 car break-ins have been reported on the city’s east side. Officers said the hardest hit neighborhoods were Belmont, Eastmont and Old North Dayton.

“It just takes a matter of seconds. They walk by check the door handle. If it’s locked, he busts it, reaches in and grabs whatever,” said Sgt. Moises Perez.

Officers said they are stepping up patrols and are asking residents to be on the lookout and report any suspicious activity.
