Downtown roads close for I-75 construction

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Road construction is shutting down more streets in downtown Dayton.

Starting May 19, several roads are closing and will not reopen for another three years.

These are the affected streets:

  • Second Street between Edwin C. Moses Boulevard and Red Cross Lane
  • Robert Drive between Monument Avenue and Third Street
  • Vista View Drive between Second Street and Third Street
  • Salem Avenue Bridge at West Riverview Avenue

The roads will be closed from now until September 2017. The detour for the Salem Avenue Bridge is to take Edwin C. Moses Boulevard to Third Street. The suggested detour for Second Street is to go from Perry Street to Third Street.

This is all part of the I-75 modernization project, which will replace the various left-sided and right-side ramps with a single, centrally-located interchange for downtown Dayton.

Arrow boards and signs will be in place to help, but ODOT want to remind drivers to reduce their speed and be on high alert while passing through work zones.

ODOT says the I-75 modernization project is about 37 percent complete, but ahead of schedule by a month and under budget by about $1 million.
