TROY, Ohio (WDTN) – Thunderstorms dropped so much rain Wednesday night that flood waters swamped the northern and eastern areas of the Miami Valley.
High water flooded areas of Tipp City, Troy, Bethel Township, New Carlisle, and Fairborn.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol closed portions of I-70 westbound in Huber Heights due to high water. Traffic in and around the YMCA in Huber Heights was heavily congested as a result of all the high water. The highway reopened around 3 a.m.
Interstate 75 at SR 55 to SR 571 was also closed due to high water. It reopened just before 2 a.m. Thursday.
One car on Interstate 70 floated down the highway past a fire ladder truck. The fire crew snatched the driver to safety.
The Miami County dispatcher tells 2 NEWS it has received hundreds of calls about high water.
There are no reports of any injuries. But, we understand that a street in New Carlisle, Lambers Road, is caved in and residents on the street are being advised to stay in their houses until emergency crews can be sure the ground is safe.
