Walking in her shoes

TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) — A mother whose daughter was a victim of domestic violence is trying to transform her tragedy into something that can help other people faced with a similar situation.

Carly Hughley was killed last year by her ex-boyfriend. Her son, who was 10 at the time, witnessed the shooting.

Since then Carly’s mom, Delsia Taylor, has tried to help other domestic violence victims, so she’s put together an event called Walking in Her Shoes this weekend at The Greene.

The proceeds will go to the YWCA’s domestic violence shelter.

To her mom Carly will always be her butterfly, the girl who loved life and cooking.

She hopes her story can save others.

“If I help one family not to have to go through the pain we’re going through then I feel we’ve done something,” Taylor says.

The walk will be Saturday May 24 at The Greene Town Square. It will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and include a raffle with prizes ranging from dinner for two to a Swarovski Crystal butterfly.

The walk is free and open to the public.
