PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) – Piqua firefighters doused a fire in their city Thursday afternoon.

Fire erupted at a home in the 300 block of North Downing Street just after 5:00 p.m.

Heavy fire was showing when firefighters arrived, so extra crews were brought in to assist.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the attic, but the entire house suffered smoke and water damage.

A 20-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

A family of four was home at the time of the fire.  The owner says he smelled the smoke at the same time a neighbor knocked on the door to warn him that his house was on fire.

The official cause is still under investigation, but fire investigators are looking into an electrical problem as the source. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
