MIAMI COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) – Volunteers pitched in right away to rescue horses trapped in one of the livestock barns at the Miami County Fairgrounds. All the horses were saved, but the fairgrounds lost a lot of sawdust that is used for bedding and horse feed.
About eight people got four horses into a trailer before the water got too high. Stagnate water is bad for the horses’ hooves. The other horses had to be led down the road, through rising water to other trailers and barns on the fairgrounds.
This isn’t the first time this year the fairgrounds has been flooded. The melting winter snow put training the horses about a month behind schedule. Training could be delayed even more because of flood water still not receded.
