MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) – Butler County prosecutors want the 17 year old accused of setting a Middletown home on fire tried as an adult.

The boy’s father defended him in juvenile court Thursday.

The teen wiped away tears when he went before a judge.

Prosecutors say he set a Roosevelt Boulevard home on fire last week while a woman and two children were inside.

The teen denied the accusations, so did his father.

“We already got proof that he was laying down in bed at that time. It hurts, it hurts me bad, man. It hurts me tremendously because I know he didn’t do this.”

The teen will remain in the juvenile detention center.

A probable cause hearing has been set for June 19.

That’s the first step in determining whether the case will go to adult court.
