Lack of guards delays pool opening

PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) – The City of Piqua has canceled the opening of the Piqua Municipal Pool for the Memorial Day weekend, including Saturday, May 24 through Monday, May 26.

They were forced to take the action because of a lack of lifeguards that have applied to work this year.

City officials said the lack of guards could impact the days and hours of operation this season.

The city continues to seek lifeguards for employment this summer and encourages anyone interested to please contact the Human Resources Office at 778-2052 or visit the City of Piqua website at for an application. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
