2 arrested for stolen scrap metal

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A couple was arrested after police said they tried to sell stolen scrap metal.

Jennifer Moore, 28, was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property. Raith Crain, 26 was arrested on charges of theft.

Police were called to Franklin Iron and Metal Friday on East First Street around 2:30 p.m. after workers there reported two individuals with suspicious metal.

Police said Moore brought in three pieces of raw metal; one piece was stainless steel about four feet long and the other two were four inch brass/copper. Moore initially told police she found the metal in an alley. When officers told her she needed to show proof of ownership of the material, she then stated her boyfriend, Raith Crain, gave it to her from his work and told her it was scrap metal that she could sell for money at the First Street recycling facility.

Police checked with South East Tool Company where Crain worked and the owner told officers Crain was never given permission to take any metal.

Both Crain and Moore were booked into jail.
