DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man is in jail after police say he got angry over a game and assaulted and robbed another man.

Eric Fields, 42, was arrested on robbery charges.

The victim told police that he and Fields were playing a game of Tonk around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in his apartment in the 100 block of West Norman Avenue. Tonk is a matching card game usually played for money. He said when Fields started losing, Fields became angry, punched the victim in the face, and then grabbed the victim’s money and left.

The victim said Fields took two $20 bills, a jar of loose change estimated at $15, a cell phone, and a pack of cigarettes.

When police questioned Fields what happened, he told them he had just been outside his apartment socializing with neighbors and nothing occurred.

Before officers took Fields into custody, they searched him and found he was carrying two $20 bills, four $1 bills, and a pack of cigarettes partially filled.

Fields was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
