DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  A suspect is dead after an officer involved shooting in Dayton.

Dayton Police told 2 NEWS it happened after officers responded to the report of a fight at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Wyoming Street around 10:00 Monday night.

That’s where they said an argument between the suspect and the a 44-year-old man ended with the suspect stabbing that man in the stomach, then running away.

Officers said they got a tip that suspect was at the UDF in the 1800 block of Wyoming Street.

Investigators said when two officers confronted the man, he lunged at them with a knife. One or both of those officers fired several shots, killing him.

The man was identified by the Montgomery County Coroner’s office as 45-year-old Terry Darnell Heath.

The case is still under investigation and both officers are on paid on administrative leave until cleared to return to duty. According to police reports, Michael Saylors and Eric Sheldon were the officers involved. Neither officer was injured.

The man who was stabbed was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where his condition is unknown.

Chief Richard Biehl of the Dayton Police Department will provide an update to news media at 4 p.m. today at the Dayton Safety Building, 336 W. Third St.
