Stabbing victim killed during 911 call to police

ENGLEWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – Englewood police are investigating their first homicide in seven years.

Police were called to a home in the 5500 block of Savina Avenue just after 5:00 p.m.

They were responding to a 911 emergency call from an assault victim.

Investigators say the 52-year-old victim got into an argument with a 30-year old man, identified by jail records as John Cochran, who lives with him. The victim barricaded himself in a bedroom to call police. While he was on the telephone, the suspect broke into the bedroom and stabbed him.

The victim died at the scene.

The suspect fled, but returned to the house a short time later where he was taken into police custody.

A third man, also 30 years old, that lives in the house with the other two men suffered hand injuries while he tried to break up the assault. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police say the three men are not related, but they do live in the house.

The suspect is booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Police will meet with prosecutors Thursday to decide charges.
