VA shooting suspect expected to argue insanity

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – 2 NEWS has learned that the suspect in the VA Medical Center shooting will plead insanity.

Court documents indicate that Neil Moore provided notice that he intends to use an insanity defense and “introduce expert testimony at the trial of this case relating to mental disease or defect”.

Moore is accused of shooting an employee as he played cards in the lunchroom in early May.

The victim, Paul Burnside, is recovering from his wounds.

Moore is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and use of a deadly weapon during a crime.
