GERMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – A mother of two is dead after an early morning fire in German Township.
A girl and boy ages 3 and 5, respectively, are recovering at Dayton Children’s after being pulled from the burning rental home by fire fighters. A 25-year-old man also in the burning home is at Miami Valley Hospital in critical condition, at last check with the German Township Fire Dept.
The fire started at the 3500 block of Johnson Road around 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
Relatives of the woman say the two children are recovering just fine and are expected to be released Monday or Tuesday.
“It was hard,” said Mark Boisel, the victim’s uncle. “This is a tragedy. Now the kids ain’t got their mother. It’s heartbreaking.”
Boisel and other relatives stopped by the home Sunday night to pick up bikes for the children. Victoria, the 3-year-old girl rescued from the fire, has a birthday on Monday.
“It’ll be a good present for her to get to come home on her birthday,” said Boisel.
Neighbors in the area said it was a newspaper delivery driver who first noticed smoke and flames pouring out of the home.
An investigation into the cause is underway.
