Emergency crews were called to the 15,000 block of Chicken Bristle Road after 7 p.m. Thursday. That’s where they found Levi Montoya.

Jackson Twp. Police Chief Jon Schade said the teen lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree. He was flown by CareFlight to the hospital, where he died.

Schade told 2 NEWS Montoya suffered severe head injuries. An investigation into the accident is underway that Schade said could take several weeks.

Nearly 150 of Montoya’s fellow classmates gathered at Valley View High School Thursday night, where he was a freshman.

Jenny Michael, a member of the Valley View School Board said Montoya was a football player, and an FFA member who showed animals at the Montgomery County Fair.

A post on the school district’s website reads, “Our sincere sympathy goes out to the Montoya Family in the loss of their son, VVHS Freshman Levi Montoya. Out thoughts are with them as well as Levi’s many friends at the high school.”

Local pastors were also at the school to help grieving students.
