Dayton officer on leave following shooting

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Dayton police officer is on administrative leave following a shooting incident late Wednesday night.

Officer Shena Lally fired at least 14 shots at a drive-by shooting suspect in the area of Willowwood and Parkwood drives just after 11:00 p.m.

Chief Richard Biehl released information about the incident Thursday afternoon.

He said Officer Lally was speaking to witnesses of a possible drive-by shooting when the suspect accelerated toward her, firing a weapon.

The chief said the officer acted to protect herself and others at the scene.

The suspect’s car then drove over a curb and toward E.J. Brown Elementary School where it crashed. The suspects fled on foot.

The victim of the original shooting, Darryl Young, 19, was dropped off at a local hospital and police believe that person returned to the scene and encountered Officer Lally.

Officer Lally is a 14 year veteran of the Dayton Police Department and is currently assigned to the Central Business District.
