SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – The teen accused of gunning down a Springfield football standout was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday.

Tyrin Hawkins, 17, is facing murder charges.

Oolice say he shot and killed Jeff Wellington on Easter Sunday while Wellington was trying to break up a fight in Springfield.

Hawkins was arrested last month at King’s Court apartments in Dayton after the U.S. Marshal’s SoFast Task Force was looking for him.
