PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) – You could see the smoke billow into the sky as members of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base bomb squad detonated a World War II era military ordinance Thursday afternoon.

It was found in the garage of a home on Sharon Drive earlier in the day.

The bomb squad says the device was a practice bazooka round about 15 to 18 inches long.

The bomb squad took it a mulch company on US Route 36 to safely detonate.

Investigators say the homeowners did the right thing by calling police to report the device.
