Duke Energy warns of phony phone calls

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WDTN) – Duke Energy is warning customers about a phony phone call.

It is similar to an alert Dayton Power and Light issued earlier this week.

Someone is calling Duke customers, telling them to make a payment or face disconnection.

You are told to make the payment with a pre-paid debit card or collect cash.

The thieves then drain the debit card.

Duke Energy says they will never ask customers with delinquent accounts to purchase a pre-paid debit card to avoid disconnection.

If you are unsure about the phone call, hang up and call police or Duke Energy to verify the call.
