911 caller praised in PF Chang’s shooting chaos; suspects still loose

MIAMI TWP., Ohio (WDTN) A shooting in the P.F. Chang’s parking lot is raising a lot of questions for investigators.

Wednesday evening at about 8:00 p.m., police said two suspects opened fire at a parked car at the Dayton Mall restaurant on SR 725.

One person is dead and another was recently released from the hospital.

2 NEWS learned the victims identities.

Jermain Boone, 41, from Los Angeles, was killed in the shooting.

Another man, 46-year-old Damon Thompson from Atlanta, has been released from the hospital.

2 NEWS also obtained the 911 calls from the incident and Thursday, officials applauded the calm nature of  some witnesses during this dangerous situation.

The following can be heard in one call to dispatchers:

CALLER: I was pulling out of the Dayton Mall entrance, the very front at Mad River (Road) and (State Road) 725 and I noticed a red Dodge truck pulling in and stopping right there by P.F. Chang’s and the driver was in the car and the passenger jumped out, ran through the bushes into a parked car in the P.F. Chang’s parking lot and reached in or was shooting.”

Miami Township Police told 2 NEWS the witness did exactly what they recommend.

She stayed safe, calm and vigilant, even securing officials some vital information as heard in another clip from the call.

OPERATOR: Okay, what was their plate number?
CALLER: G as in George. D as in David. L as in Larry. 82-19 and it was Ohio plates.
OPERATOR: Okay, George, David, Larry 82-19, red Dodge truck?
CALLER: Correct.

Officials later found that 19-4 red Dodge Ram 1500 series truck on the 2400 block of Eagle Ridge Road.

No arrests have been made in the case, but officials believe this was a targeted incident.

Thursday officials promised to bring closure to this shooting.

When asked about the motive behind this crime, Sergeant Jay Phares said, “No, we seem to think that this was an isolated incident it wasn’t just somebody doing something random to an innocent, you know, not knowing person. Something had to have precipitated some of this and we’re going to find out if that’s right or wrong. You know, maybe this is random, but it’s rare. We don’t have people just getting shot in the mall, luckily. You know, it doesn’t happen.”

Officials said they’re still looking for the suspects.
