DAYTON , Ohio (WDTN) – Glenn A. Costie, CEO/Medical Director of the Dayton VA Medical Center, has been picked to become the Interim CEO/Medical Center Director for the Phoenix VA Medical Center.

The temporary assignment, effective July 9, 2014, is being made to provide leadership until a permanent Phoenix VA Medical Director is hired, said Public Affairs Officer Ted Froats.

At the end of the assignment, Costie will return to the Dayton VA Medical Center no later than Nov. 6.

Costie will relieve Steven Young, who was appointed Interim CEO/Medical Director for the Phoenix VA. The previous director, Sharon Helman, was placed on administrative leave following allegations related to secret lists and extended wait times. Young will return to his post as CEO/Medical Director of the Salt Lake City VA , Froats said.

“I am honored to be entrusted with this opportunity to continue to serve our Veterans and build on the foundation Steven Young has created,” said Costie. “I look forward to assisting the Phoenix VA Team during this time of transition until their new permanent leader is selected.”

Costie was appointed CEO/Medical Director of the Dayton VA in Dec. 2011. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
