WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB (WDTN) – The Pride Run at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has been canceled because of inclement weather, a Base spokesperson told 2 NEWS. A new date has not been scheduled.

Base Commander Col. Cassie B. Barlow said the event was created to celebrate diversity and recognize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month.

“Our Air Force was really founded on diversity,” Barlow said. “We used to think diversity was the color of our skin, and we quickly recognized that it wasn’t just the color of our skin, it was also our gender, our diversity of thought. This is another way of recognizing diversity.”

The run was sponsored by the Wright-Patterson AFB Rising 6 Organization, a private professional development organization made up of base personnel.

Proceeds for the event were to be donated to the Base Airman’s Attic.

The race was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Friday.
