DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton City Commissioners approved changes to the city’s leash laws Wednesday.

You can now be fined if you leave your dog outside on a chain for too long.

The change to the leash law says a dog cannot be outside tethered with a leash for more than two hours at a time.

It can also not spend more than 12 hours a day on the chain.

A dog advocate says the new changes are important.

“Frozen water in the winter, fly bitten ears in the summer, heated and sickly, these dogs have implored me with their eyes for relief from their suffering,” said Gail Downie, dog advocate. “No dog wants to be an outside dog.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
