Your first look inside Dayton’s racino

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton is ready for a little lady luck, and 2NEWS took a look inside the building where it just may happen.

Wednesday, officials at Hollywood Gaming showed off their newest racino, under construction in the 2500 block of Needmore Road.

Despite the winter weather and recent severe flooding, their plans are on schedule and construction is moving full swing.

The blueprint is now coming to life, as carpets are being laid, sky boxes are being polished and stables are being prepared.

“It’s very exciting as we continue to hire more of our team members you can literally feel the energy building,” said General Manager Gary DeWitt.

Within the next week, project managers hope to let in employees to prepare for the fall open of the raceway.

More than 7,000 people have applied for at least 500 jobs at the facility; 200 of those positions have already been filled.

2NEWS asked General Manager Gary DeWitt how much the average pay would be for employees.

“They’ll be good paying jobs here at Hollywood Gaming and Dayton Raceway, but we’re just excited to offer some of the economic development in the area. It’s going to be a wide range of salary. Again, it’s just more about us offering the jobs and hopefully making a positive impact,” said the GM.

As construction moves forward, the team said special touches are coming together, such as the sky box that will offer a VIP feel with gourmet meals; the casino floor with at least 1000 video lottery terminal games; and the simulcast theater and clubhouse that will broadcast races nationwide.

When asked how this site will compare to other entertainment locations across Dayton, DeWitt said,  ‘Well, I’ll tell you, again, we will have live harness racing in the Dayton market. And again, we’re getting a lot of positive feedback from folks in the area in regards to the excitement the racing is going to offer.”

Officials expect to announce the grand opening date by the end of June; live harness racing will begin October 3rd.
