4 arrested in attacks, burglaries targeting Amish

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — Deputies say three young men and a 17-year-old have been arrested in a spree of attacks and burglaries against the Amish in northeastern Ohio.

The Geauga County sheriff’s office says the four were involved in a string of break-ins beginning in May.

Chief Deputy Scott Hildenbrand said Monday that the four targeted mostly Amish-owned businesses but were only coming away with small amounts. He says the four then decided to rob Amish people while they were riding in buggies.

The sheriff’s office says that just over a week ago the masked men chased an Amish man and his girlfriend riding in a buggy and then the men later swung baseball bats at two others in a buggy.

Hildenbrand says the four were caught after bragging about what they did.
