DRAGONS

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) Lake County’s Grant Fink belted two solo home runs and Nellie Rodriguez added a three-run blast as the Captains defeated the Dayton Dragons 13-2 on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.  The Captains took three-of-four in the series in Dayton.

Lake County scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead, keyed by a two-out, three-run double down the left field line by Dorssys Paulino.

The Dragons scored in second when Carlton Daal drove in Joe Hudson from second base with a two-out single to make it 4-1, but Fink belted solo homers in the third and fifth innings to push the Captains lead to 6-1.

The Dragons loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth on a hit by Daal and walks to Jamodrick McGruder and Phillip Ervin.  Daniel Pigott grounded out to second base to bring in Daal and make it 6-2 before Tanner Rahier grounded to short to end the threat.  Lake County exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth, keyed by a two-run double by Claudio Bautista and the three-run homer by Rodriguez that extended the lead to 12-2.

The Dragons did not have a hit the rest of the night.  Lake County scored an unearned run in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Dragons starting pitcher Sal Romano (4-8) suffered the loss, working five and one-third innings and allowing 10 hits and nine runs (seven earned) with one walk and six strikeouts.

Dayton reliever Tony Amezcua had his fourth straight strong performance.  He worked two innings and allowed just one hit and one unearned run.  He walked no one and struck out four.

The Dragons collected six hits.  Daal was 2 for 4 with a run scored and a run batted in.

The Dragons (3-8) open a new three-game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps (5-6) at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.  Dan Langfield (2-0, 2.81) will start for the Dragons against Fort Wayne’s Kyle Lloyd (2-2, 4.18).
