Captains crush Dragons 13 to 2

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) Lake County’s Grant Fink belted two solo home runs and Nellie Rodriguez added a three-run blast as the Captains defeated the Dayton Dragons 13-2 on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.  The Captains took three-of-four in the series in Dayton.

Lake County scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead, keyed by a two-out, three-run double down the left field line by Dorssys Paulino.

The Dragons scored in second when Carlton Daal drove in Joe Hudson from second base with a two-out single to make it 4-1, but Fink belted solo homers in the third and fifth innings to push the Captains lead to 6-1.

The Dragons loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth on a hit by Daal and walks to Jamodrick McGruder and Phillip Ervin.  Daniel Pigott grounded out to second base to bring in Daal and make it 6-2 before Tanner Rahier grounded to short to end the threat.  Lake County exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth, keyed by a two-run double by Claudio Bautista and the three-run homer by Rodriguez that extended the lead to 12-2.

The Dragons did not have a hit the rest of the night.  Lake County scored an unearned run in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Dragons starting pitcher Sal Romano (4-8) suffered the loss, working five and one-third innings and allowing 10 hits and nine runs (seven earned) with one walk and six strikeouts.
