EATON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Kettering Health Network is celebrating its newest expansion.

Leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony in Eaton Monday afternoon for a new emergency department at the Preble County Medical Center.

Eaton’s fire chief says the area is very busy – making about three thousand emergency medical service runs a year and the closest emergency center is in Dayton or Richmond, Indiana.

Eaton resident Roy Potter said one night he was passing blood and had to drive himself to Richmond’s Reid Memorial Hospital for help. He said it took 25 frightening minutes to get there.

The new, 12,000 square foot, $10-million dollar facility will be built right next the Preble County Medical Center on Washington Jackson Road in Eaton and should be finished early next year.

It will create 25 to 30 new jobs and is expected to open in early 2015. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
