DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton police say a store owner shot a would-be robber and killed him Monday morning.

Police were called to the Step-N-Style at 3217 West Siebenthaler Avenue in the Northwest Plaza just after 11:00 a.m.

Officers say two armed and masked suspects entered the store with the intention of robbing it.  The owner shot one.  The other suspect fled.

The victim is described as a black male in his 20s.  The other suspect is also believed to be in his 20s and was wearing jeans and sweatshirt at the time with a white bandana over his face.

Homicide investigators are working the case.  Right now, police say it appears to be a case of self defense.

They are looking at surveillance video from both the store and the shopping plaza.

There was one customer in the store at the time of the shooting.  That person was not hurt. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
